Firmware Management
You must do a software downgrade to revert back to an older firmware version for Mitel
endpoints (post v2.4 installation). Multiple firmware versions are not currently supported; only
the latest versions are available for downloading.
Software Packaging
Endpoint firmware images are maintained on the Inter-Tel 5000 server for each of the supported
Mitel IP and Inter-Tel IP endpoints. However, the Inter-Tel endpoint firmware has not been
changed for this release.
The endpoint firmware is maintained in packages to be upgraded as part of the Inter-Tel 5000
system upgrade. The Inter-Tel images must be explicitly installed.
Only one release of each firmware is maintained on the Inter-Tel 5000 server.
Package Mechanism
The standard Inter-Tel 5000 packaging procedure is used. There are two packages:
•
cs-mitl-ep
: Inter-Tel 5000 Mitel endpoints package (automatically installed)
•
cs-intl-ep
: Inter-Tel 5000 ITP endpoints package (must be selected from the AWS System
Upgrade Web page)
During the Inter-Tel 5000 system upgrade (selected from the AWS System Upgrade Web page),
the installed packages are displayed along with the other system packages that are installed
during the Inter-Tel 5000 system upgrade.
On a system upgrade from an earlier release (for example, Inter-Tel 5000 Release 2.3) not
containing endpoint firmware, the Inter-Tel IP endpoint firmware packages are not automatically
installed, but the Mitel IP endpoint firmware IS automatically installed.
Package Downgrade
System downgrades are supported. For a system downgrade to an earlier release (for example,
Inter-Tel 5000 Release 2.3) not containing endpoint firmware support, the endpoint firmware
packages and contents are removed from the Inter-Tel 5000 system.
Space Management
Before any package upgrade starts, compact flash available space checks are performed on the
Inter-Tel 5000 system as follows:
•
A check for available space is performed before package transfer starts.
•
A check for available space is performed after all packages are downloaded to the Inter-
Tel 5000 system and before the package contents are upgraded.
If the system upgrade determines there is not enough compact flash space available to
complete the system upgrade, the system upgrade displays a message informing you of a lack
of available space, and it will not install any packages. You are then prompted to remove some
voice-mail messages and try again. The system upgrade aborts.
