Peripheral Equipment
The Inter-Tel 5000 platform supports peripheral, or external, equipment that provide
enhancements to the IP system’s basic business communication services. The following
sections describe equipment that can be attached to the platform.
Voice Processor
The Voice Processing Unit (VPU) runs on Windows 2000. The Enterprise Messaging (EM)
system runs either Windows 2000 or Windows 2000 Server. Both processors are installed on a
PC that is connected to the Inter-Tel system to provide integrated voice processing (voice mail,
automated attendant, hunt group announcement and overflow, buffered SMDR, optional Fax-
On-Demand, Record-A-Call, etc.). For installation instructions, see “Installing an External Voice

PC for On-Site or Stand-Alone/Remote Programming
A PC (personal computer) running Windows 2000 or Windows XP is required for on-site or for
stand-alone or remote programming. The PC specifications must meet or exceed the
specifications shown in the following information matrix.

SMDR/Error Message Output
Output data from SMDR and Error Message Recording features is accessed through an IP
socket defined on the Administrative Web Session. The output may be sent to a PC or to a
printer. For details, refer to the
