Software-Managed Functions
Software-managed functions include:
IP Resource Application
Internet Protocol (IP) resources are made available with the processor module in conjunction
with a software application, as described in the following paragraphs:
•
The IP Resource Application (IPRA) enables Voice over IP (VoIP) capability for the Inter-
Tel 5000 platform. IPRA supports up to 32 IP devices, including Basic Voice Mail, private
network T.38 Fax over IP (FoIP) between Inter-Tel 5000 nodes, and peer-to-peer (P2P)
audio.
•
On the Inter-Tel CS-5200, the PM-1 processor supports three IP networking resources,
and up to 25 IP devices, including MGCP or SIP gateways, FoIP, and endpoints.
•
On the Inter-Tel CS-5400, the PM-1 with an attached Processor Expansion Card (PEC)
supports six IP networking resources and up to 110 IP devices, including MGCP or SIP
gateways, FoIP, and endpoints.
IP Devices Support
Up to 28 IP devices, including IP endpoints, IP SLAs, and MGCP and SIP gateways can be
programmed on the system. The IPR Application also supports multi-protocol endpoints, which
can operate using either SIP or Inter-Tel Protocol (ITP). To terminate a multi-protocol endpoint
configured to use SIP, the latest version of SIP Server is required.
IP Networking Support
The IPR Application (IPRA) can be programmed to provide private networking using IP. To use
the IPRA for private networking, voice resources and appropriate IP connection information
must be programmed. For details, refer to the
Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming Guide
(part no. 580.8006)
.
If programmed for IP networking, the IPRA supports 16 channels.
Voice Channel Allocations
Any configuration of the system is nonblocking for internal calls. However, the Inter-Tel CS-5200
allows 28 voice connections before blocking occurs, and the Inter-Tel CS-5400 allows up to 110
connections before blocking occurs. For more detailed information about IP resource allocation,
see “IP Resources” on
page 3-19
.
DTMF Receivers
It is possible to have more call traffic than the standard system DTMF receivers can process
efficiently. If DTMF receiver circuits are often busy, the condition will cause delay in single line
endpoint users receiving dial tone.

NOTE
The software license regulates the number of multi-protocol endpoints only,
such as the Model 8600, Model 8620/8622, Model 8662, and Model 8690. It
does not regulate the number of endpoints that operate in IP mode only,
such as the Model 8660 and Inter-Tel IP PhonePlus.
NOTE
DTMF receivers are used when single line sets are dialed and when features such
as E&M, DISA, Automated Attendant, CO call continuation, etc. are used. They
are in use only while the dialed number is being processed, not for the duration of
the call.
