IP Gateway Trunk Licensing
The Inter-Tel 5000 platform requires “IP Gateway Trunk License,” part no. 840.0234, for the use
of the following two types of IP gateway trunks. One license is required for each trunk to be
used.
•
Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP)
•
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)
Software Feature Licensing
Software features, which customers can purchase to enhance their systems, are controlled by
licensing through the Inter-Tel License Management Center (LMC). This section discusses the
process used for licensing software features and the storage of multiple licenses on a system.
General
Because features are controlled through licensing, the system database cannot be restored with
software features that have not been licensed by Inter-Tel, Inc. If an attempt is made to Restore
a database that has more software features than the license reflects, a warning message is
displayed before the Restore command is executed. When this message displays, the Restore
action must be cancelled. For details, refer to the
Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming
Guide
(part no. 580.8006).
Because the software license determines the features that can be enabled, changes cannot be
made directly in DB Programming. The process to add software features involves purchasing
the license, building the licence from the LMC, generating the license, downloading it to the field
PC, and installing it in the system from the PC through DB Programming. For complete
procedural instructions, refer to the
Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming Guide
(part no.
580.8006).
Number of Licenses
The system stores up to five different licenses, each of which is unique based on the system
version. For example, only one v1.0 software license can be stored on the Processor Module. If
a new license that matches the version number of an existing license is loaded, the new license
automatically overwrites the existing license.
In addition, if five licenses are currently stored and a sixth license is saved, the oldest license,
based on the date and time the license was created, is overwritten. If, however, the oldest
license is currently in use, the next oldest license is overwritten. In addition, because each
license is unique, only one license for each version number can be stored at any time.
IP Endpoint Licensing
This section identifies the types of IP endpoints that the Inter-Tel 5000 platform supports and the
process used for activation of licensed endpoints.
Endpoint-Specific Licensing
The Inter-Tel 5000 platform supports a three-tier licensing plan for IP endpoints. Category A
licensing primarily allows use of Inter-Tel Advanced IP endpoints. Category B licensing allows
use of the Inter-Tel Model 8602 IP softphone. Category C licensing primarily allows use of
legacy Inter-Tel IP endpoints. For details, see Table 3-1 on
page 3-16
