Inter-Tel CS-5600
Version 2.0 introduced the Inter-Tel CS-5600 platform, which consists of an Inter-Tel CS-5400
connected to the same local area network (LAN) as a Processing Server (PS-1). For details,
see “Network Environment Requirements” on
page 5-146
. Running v2.x and utilizing the system
oversubscription capability, the Inter-Tel CS-5600 supports a mix of up to 250 IP endpoints, IP
private networking trunks, and/or IP gateway trunks. Required interface hardware and licensing
apply. The CS-5600 provides 16 voice channels for Basic Voice Mail and 32 voice channels for
Enterprise Messaging (EM) or a Windows 2000-based Voice Processing Unit (VPU).
Version 2.1 and later supports the eight-port Single Line Module (SLM-8), part no. 580.2101, in
addition to the four-port SLM-4 that can be installed in the Inter-Tel CS-5200/5400/5600 Base
Server. Having the same form-factor as the Digital Endpoint Module (DEM-16), the SLM-8 fits in
the Digital Expansion Interface (DEI) chassis. For a feature description, refer to the
Inter-Tel
5000 Features and Programming Guide
(580.8006); for the installation procedure see “Installing
an Eight-Port Single Line Module (SLM-8)” on
page 5-76
; and, for additional programming
instructions, refer to the
Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming Guide
(580.8006).
With v2.1 or later, the CS-5600 Processing Server (PS-1) also supports 16-port Basic Voice
Mail and handles call processing chores for the entire system. It controls and communicates
with the Base Server across the customer’s local area network (LAN). For a feature description,
refer to the basic voice mail information in the
Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming Guide
(part no. 580.8006).
For systems that utilize numerous IP endpoints, IP trunks, and IP networking, v2.0 and later
allow oversubscription of IP resources. With oversubscription, dynamic allocation of IP
resources, and Camp On capability, a system can be programmed with more endpoints than it
has IP resources available to support simultaneously. For oversubscribed systems, the
Resource Reservation Tool allows you to reserve IP resources for essential functions such as
Emergency/911, as well as other customer-specified devices and endpoints.
With the Inter-Tel CS-5600 platform, a separate Processing Server (PS-1) supports 16 ports of
Basic Voice Mail and handles call processing chores for the entire system. It controls and
communicates with the Base Server across the customer’s local area network (LAN).
For a detailed comparison of system capacities, see “System Capacities” on
page 4-12
.
NOTE
The Base Server is actually an Inter-Tel CS-5400 that, to avoid confusion
hardware-wise, is called a Base Server when it functions as a component of an
Inter-Tel CS-5600 system. For consistency in this document the base server
chassis is called the Inter-Tel CS-5200/5400/5600 Base Server.
