Interfaces on Front of Base Server
The front of the Inter-Tel 5000 Base Server is equipped with a two-line LCD panel, an LCD
control consisting of four triangular buttons surrounding a circular button, two USB jacks, a
Security Key socket, a recessed compact flash ejection button, and a compact flash card bay.
LCD Panel : The LCD panel displays system status and command messages on two lines of 14
characters each. provides two basic functions. It displays system status information that the
technician uses to determine the operating condition of the system. As driven by five LCD
control buttons, the panel displays menus and options for programming, changing, or resetting
the system.
LCD Control Buttons : The control buttons allow the technician to scroll through menu items to
set system parameters during system installation and to perform other system routines. The up
and down arrow-shaped buttons control the movement of the menus and menu items displayed
on the LCD panel. The up–down arrows also allow the technician to advance or retreat through
letters or numbers. The right and left arrow buttons control the movement of the cursor from one
character or command to another. Pressing the center, circular button causes the system to
select and accept the chosen letter, number, or command item.
Manual System Reset : Reset is a software-controlled system reconfiguration, and the
technician can manually reset the system using the LCD panel and control buttons. By selecting
the
REBOOT command from the SYSTEM MENU on the LCD panel and then pressing the
center button, the technician causes the system to:

Preserve the battery-backed database information, all calls in progress, outside calls being
dialed, pages in progress, camped-on calls, Callback Queue requests, system and user
programming, messages between endpoints, calls on system and individual hold, DND
messages, and reminder messages.

Restore DTMF receivers, modem access, and speech channels, and reset the endpoint
clocks to match the system clock. Update button lamp status on mini-DSS units.
•
Disconnect calls ringing in and calls in progress.
USB-B Serial Port : The USB (Universal Serial Bus)-B port connects to a personal computer for
local accessing the online Monitoring (OLM) feature.
Security Key : This USB device contains a record of the system’s licenses, allowing only
authorized features to be implemented.
Inter-Tel Memory Card Bay and Extractor Button : This bay accepts a compact flash card
distributed only by Inter-Tel. The card stores system applications, the system database, and
voice mail prompts and messages, including Record-A-Call recordings. For details, refer to the
backup information in the
Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming Guide (part no. 580.8006)
and to the Voice Processing. Next to the bay is a recessed extractor button that ejects the card
when pushed in. The button is recessed to reduce the risk of the card being unintentionally
removed from the system.
