Planning Digital and Analog Endpoint Locations
Keep the following information in mind when planning digital endpoint locations and types:
•
Digital Endpoints
: The Inter-Tel DEI unit has the capacity for up to 96 digital endpoints or
SLAs or a combination of both (using two DEI chassis). See “Installing Digital Endpoints”
on
page 5-123
for a listing of the available endpoint models. See “System Endpoint
Capacities” on
page 4-17
for more information on maximum station capacities.
•
Single Line Endpoints
: Single line endpoints such as DTMF endpoints or fax machines
can be attached to the Inter-Tel 5000 platform in any of the following ways:
o
Connected to four-port or eight-port Single Line Modules (SLM-4 or SLM-8).
o
Connected to the two-port single line jack (RJ-14) on the back of the Inter-Tel CS-
5200/5400/5600 Base Server. One or two industry-standard, single line DTMF
endpoints can be installed on a system at the back of the base server chassis. For
details on this feature, refer to the
Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming Guide
(part no: 580.8006). The dual loop start ports are then cabled to the MDF. This set up
allows the single line endpoints to be used to dial an emergency or other number
directly without going through the system. These lines also provide access outside in
the event of a network or site power outage.
o
Connected to IP Single-Line Adapters (IP SLAs). Single line endpoints can be
connected to the dual single line port on the back of the Inter-Tel CS-5200/5400/5600
Base Server chassis.
o
Connected to Single-Line Adapters (SLAs).
o
Connected to DEM-16s in the DEI. Up to 96 (48 per chassis) industry-standard, single
line DTMF or pulse-tone endpoints can be installed on a system.
•
DSS/BLF Units
: Up to four DSS/BLF units can be attached to an individual digital
endpoint. Each Inter-Tel system, or network node, supports up to 20 DSS/BLF units.
•
Single-Line Adapters
: One or two single line endpoints or DID trunks can be attached to
an SLA. Each SLA requires attachment to a DEM-16 port.
•
Mini-DSS Units
: Models 8520 and 8560 digital endpoints can connect directly to a Mini-
DSS (Model 8416). The number of Mini-DSS units is not limited by system resources.
•
Playback Devices
: Playback devices can be used in place of single line endpoints. If an
external voice mail system is not used, playback devices are useful as hunt group
overflow/announcement stations. For details, see the
Specifications
chapter.
