5000 Installation Manual – Issue 2.4, May 2008
To install the external music source:
1.
Attach a 1/8-inch, two-conductor (mono), mini-phone plug to one end of a 5–10 ft (1.5–
3.0 m) length of shielded speaker cable, or twisted-pair cable, to run from the external
music source to the Inter-Tel CS-5200/5400/5600 Base Server. A stereo plug will not
work properly in the MOH jack. If the stereo earphone output of an external music
source is used, a stereo-mono adapter should be used between the stereo output jack
and the monaural cable.
2.
Do one of the following:
•
Connect the other end of the cable to the speaker output terminals of the music
source.
•
Attach the necessary connector to the other end of the cable, and plug it into the
earphone jack on the music source (if available). If the earphone jack is “padded”
so that the optimal volume level cannot be reached, connecting to the speaker
output terminals may be more effective.
3.
Plug in the AC power cord for the music source.
DO NOT
use the same power outlet
used for the Inter-Tel 5000 Base Server. Turn on the AC power to the music source.
Also, Inter-Tel recommends using an UPS.
4.
Insert the 1/8-inch mini-phone plug into the jack labeled MOH on the back of the Inter-Tel
CS-5200/5400/5600 Base Server. See Figure 5-63 on
page 5-169
.
5.
From an endpoint, do one of the following:
•
Select a trunk and dial the number (of one of the other trunks) to call back into the
system. Put the call on hold to hear the music.
•
Place an intercom call to another station. Put the call on hold to hear the music.
•
Dial feature code 313. You should hear background music.
6.
While listening to Music-On-Hold, adjust the volume on the music source to an
acceptable level.
