Installing a Basic Rate Module (BRM-S)
Each Inter-Tel 5000 Base Server chassis accepts up to three Basic Rate Modules (BRM-S) for
connecting ISDN S-interface trunking. For additional information about modules, see the
Specifications
and
Product Description
chapters.
Procedure
To install a BRM-S:
1.
Using a properly terminated, anti-static wrist strap, remove the module from the
protective anti-static bag. See
Figure 5-24
for an example of the BRM-S module for the
remaining steps in this procedure.
2.
If applicable, remove any protective covers over the module bay where you want to
install the BRM-S. These covers prevent debris or other foreign matter from entering the
system and possibly harming the internal components. These covers should remain in
place until you are ready to install a module.
3.
Insert the BRM-S carefully so that it aligns with the rails inside the chassis, then gently
slide the module into the chassis until it stops. Do not use force.
4.
Tighten the fastener at the top of the module, securing it to the chassis. Do not over
tighten this fastener.
5.
Continue to “Verifying and Securing Cable Connections” on
page 5-33
.

BRM-S Module
To remove a BRM-S:
1.
Using a properly terminated, anti-static wrist strap, loosen the fastener at the top of the
module (this fastener secures the module to the chassis).
2.
Push down and hold the module release lever, then when the
REMOVE
LED turns
green, grasp the module handle and carefully remove the module from the chassis.
IMPORTANT
The BRM-S module can be removed with power on; however, you must
wait for the REMOVE LED indicator to change to green before removing
the module. Pressing and holding the release lever until the LED indicator
turns green allows the software to “disconnect” from the module. Failure to
wait until the LED turns green could result in pending information getting
lost or unexpected system behavior.
BRM-S modules can reside in any expansion bay. However, DB Program-
ming will need to be changed if you move a module that was previously
programmed into a different bay location.
