Data Communications
Data communications available for the
FOMA terminal
Available data communications between the FOMA
terminal and PCs are classified into 3 categories:
packet communications, 64K data communications
and data transfer (OBEX™ communications).
Data transfer (OBEX™ communications)
Exchange data such as images, music, phonebook
and mail between other FOMA terminals or PCs, etc.
Packet communications
Charges are based on the volume of data
transmitted
*1
, and the maximum receiving speed of
7.2 Mbps
*2
and the maximum sending speed of
384 kbps
*2
are available in the FOMA HIGH-SPEED
area. Communications are provided on a best-effort
basis, which may vary depending on communications
and network conditions.
• When using packet communications with
DOCOMO PDA “sigmarion
Ⅲ
” or “musea”, the
communication speed may become slow. HIGH-
SPEED area fast communications is not supported.
This service also supports an enterprise LAN
connected to the FOMA network.
Packet communications uses an access point that
supports FOMA packet communications, such as
DOCOMO Internet connection service “mopera U”.
PC connection is established via FOMA USB Cable
with Charge Function 02 (optional) or Bluetooth and
PDA connection via the dedicated cable.
• Use IP connections for packet communications
overseas. (PPP connections are not available.)
*1 : Please be aware that communications charges will be
high when you use packet communications to transmit
large volumes of data.
*2 : The above speed is the maximum value of the
technical specification and the actual data rate
depends on communications and network conditions.
When out of the FOMA HIGH-SPEED area or
connecting to a non-HIGH-SPEED access point, the
communication speed may become slow.
64K data communications
Communications charges are based on the
connection time, not on the volume of data.
*
64K data communications uses an access point
supporting FOMA 64K data communications such as
DOCOMO Internet connection service “mopera U”, or
uses ISDN synchronous 64K access point.
PC connection is established via FOMA USB Cable
with Charge Function 02 (optional) or Bluetooth
connection, and PDA connection via the dedicated
cable.
• 64K data communications is not available
overseas.
*: Communications charges may be high if connecting for
a long time.
Notes on use
Internet service provider fees
In addition to FOMA service charges, you may need to
pay user fees to an Internet service provider to use the
Internet. These fees must be paid directly to the
Internet service provider in addition to service fees of
FOMA service. Contact your Internet service provider
for details.
DOCOMO offers mopera U as an Internet access
service. mopera U requires a subscription and is a fee
based service.
