Auto focus
AF is available to capture a photo using the rear
camera. You can use two modes: “Single auto focus”
to focus in focus lock (
g
pressed) and “Continuous
auto focus” to continue focusing on the subject.

Face detection auto focus shooting (Auto
focus: ON)
When you frame the shot, the face is detected and
the white focus frame automatically moves to adjust
focus and exposure.

Face detection auto focus works when the photo
mode is set to “Auto”, “Portrait”, “Backlight”, “Smile
face” or “OFF” and the image size is set to Screen
(480 × 854 or 854 × 480) or larger.
z
Up to 5 faces can be detected simultaneously.
When multiple faces are detected, the focus is
automatically adjusted according to the face size/
position. You can select a face to focus on.

The focus frame is displayed in white for a face to
be focused, and in gray for other faces.
z
If a face cannot be detected or no face appears on
the screen, the auto focus is used.

Smile mode shooting (Auto focus: ON)
When you frame the shot, the face is detected and
the white focus frame automatically moves to adjust
focus and exposure. When you press the shutter, the
focus frame turns pink. The photo is taken the
moment the person smiles.
■
AF shooting (Auto focus: ON)
The camera automatically focuses on the subject in
the center of the screen. When you change the
camera direction to focus on another subject, the
focus is automatically readjusted.
■
Close-up (Auto focus: ON)
The camera automatically focuses on the subject in
the center of the screen (if no subject appears, the
focus distance will be approximately 10 cm). When
you change the camera direction to focus on another
subject, the focus is automatically readjusted.

Close-up is available when Photo mode is set to
“Auto” or “OFF” or when the camera mode is
“Panorama cap. mode”.

Fixed focus shooting (Auto focus: OFF)
Take a photo with auto focus off.
■
AF lock shooting (Auto focus: ON)
If you want to focus on a subject other than the one in
the center of the frame, first focus on the subject then
turn the camera to change the composition.

The image quality may deteriorate depending on
the image size.

Faces may not be detected when:
• The face turns away
• The face is at an angle to the camera
• The face is hidden with glasses, hat, mask,
shadow, etc.
• The face is too small, large, bright or dark
z
Face detection is limited to a distance within 3 m
from the camera.
z
Auto focus only works at 15 cm or more from the
camera.
z
Accurate focus may not be possible when:
• The place is dark
• The contrast is poor
• Both near and far subjects are in the frame
• There is a light, etc. in the range
• The subject is moving
• The camera is not held steady
z
It may take time to complete the focus lock.
z
Brightness is set when focus is locked. If the
camera is moved after completing the focus lock,
the camera brightness may be inappropriate. In
this case, retry the focus lock or cancel the AF
lock to adjust brightness.
