5000 Series Layer 2/3 Managed Data Center Switch CLI Reference Guide

Parameters
number-of-paths
The maximum number of next hops in a BGP router. The range is from
1 to 32 unless the platform or SDM template further restricts the range.
Default
The default is a single next hop for BGP.
Command Mode
BGP Router Config
11-40 maximum-paths igbp (IPv4 VRF Address Family Config)
Use this command to specify the maximum number of next hops BGP may include in an Equal Cost
Multipath (ECMP) route derived from paths received from neighbors within the local autonomous system.
Paths are considered for ECMP when their attributes are the same (local preference, AS-PATH, origin,
MED, peer type, and IGP distance). When BGP uses multiple paths in an ECMP route, BGP still selects
one path as the best path and advertises only that path to its peers.
Use the
no
command to reset back to the default the number of next hops BGP may include in an ECMP
route derived from paths received from neighbors within the local autonomous system.

11-41 maximum-paths igbp (lPv6 Address Family Config)
Use this command to limit the number of ECMP next hops in IPv6 routes from internal peers.
