m. Remove the backup drive from drive-slot 2 and set it aside.
Label it clearly as the backup drive.
n. Turn on XC1000 power and boot to the
ENTER BOOT
COMMAND: prompt.
22. Press
F12
to continue the FCP conversion. As the FCP conversion
continues, many screens scroll as the automatic script software
verifies that the engineering bit is set and that system-drive 1 is larger
than or equal to system-drive 0. At this point, the XC1000 reads and
modifies data for a special IPL download. The XC1000 then reads,
modifies, and stores download port information. For the conversion,
the XC1000 download port is temporarily assigned a baud rate of
19200. Software files (cbbase.abs, ipl2.abs, os.abs) are downloaded
to the XC1000.
While these events are occurring, different status lines are displayed
at the bottom of the screen, and the PC beeps from time to time. This
stage of the conversion takes about 10 minutes.
If the screen blanks while the FCP conversion script is running, press
Shift to return. Eventually, the !!!INSTRUCTION!!! screen shown in
Figure 17-67 appears.
You need to
1. Power down the VPM.
2. Replace the file card EPROM(s).
3. Power up the VPM.
** System drive(s) will be converted.

23. Attach an antistatic wrist strap. Continue wearing the wrist strap until
all hardware or firmware changes are complete.
Make sure that XC1000 power is off before removing the
file cards to replace the EPROMs. The file cards could be
permanently damaged if pulled out while XC1000 power is
on.
Caution!
24. Turn off XC1000 power. Remove the file cards from the XC1000 and
place them on grounded, static-dissipative mats.
25. Replace the current file-card EPROMs with the new file-card EPROMs
(section 17.3.1).
