8.4.6 Running Validity Checks
Validity checks are required when replacing system or message drives.
Validity checks comprise options 0, 10, and 11 on the reformat menu.
Complete the following steps to run validity checks on the drive to be
replaced:
1. Call-forward the XC1000 pilot number to a telephone number that will
be answered.
2. Record the slot numbers and serial numbers of all drives involved, so
that the XC1000 can be reconfigured properly at the end of the
procedure.
On the HP 700/43 model terminal, do not press the Copy
Pr key while the terminal displays the Main Menu.
Pressing the Copy Pr key at the Main Menu before entering
other menus causes the printer to stop working. If this
happens, turn the printer power off and back on.
Caution!
3. Make sure that the printer is loaded with plenty of paper and then turn
on continuous printing at the printer by pressing the Copy Pr key on
HP terminals or the Ctrl–Shift–Print keys on Wyse 50 terminals, then
return to the Main Menu. The printer will provide a printout of the
results of all the steps performed through the SMT during the replace-
ment procedure.
4. Enter the current date at the
Enter Menu Selection Number:
prompt, in
the format mmdd . For example, for December 15, enter 1215 ; for March
21, enter 0321 . The screen will blank and display the > prompt.
5. Enter the word REFORMAT . The reformat menu appears on the
screen, as shown in Figure 8-12.
