REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT

1. Open the doors on the front of the cabinet.
2. Put on the antistatic wrist strap. The wrist strap is located in the lower
–48 Vdc power-control slot, toward the front of the cabinet.
If an analog line-card group has only one ATIC and DLC
instead of two and another ATIC and DLC is being added
to complete the group, calls might be dropped from the
existing ATIC while the new ATIC is being inserted. Take
the card group out of service before adding the second
ATIC and DLC.

3. Slide the new card into its slot with the extractors fully open. Use the
card extractors to apply pressure on the outer edges of the card to
make sure that the card is properly seated in the backplane. Make
sure that a DLC/TIC set exists for the new cards. An ATIC, E&M TIC,
or DID TIC line-card group consists of two ATICs, each using one DLC;
a T1 TIC uses two DLCs; or a PTIC and E1 TIC each use three DLCs.
The new TICs and DLCs are uploaded automatically.
4. Remove the antistatic wrist strap and store it in the –48 Vdc power-
control slot.
5. Close the doors on the front of the cabinet.
6. Access Menu 4 – Port Assignments from the Main Menu. Configure the
ports for the new cards. Refer to the XC1000 System Manager Manual
for more information about menu 4 and configuring port assignments.
8.3.3 Replacing EPROMs
When upgrading to a new software release, EPROMS might need to be
replaced on the following logic cards: CPU, file card, monitor card, DLC, and
TIC. Refer to Appendix E for the correct EPROMs to use for specific hardware
and software configurations. Handle EPROMs carefully at all times, or they
could be damaged. If EPROMs are damaged, the XC1000 will not function
properly. When installing an EPROM, make sure to follow these guidelines:
Always wear an antistatic wrist strap when handling the EPROM (or
any ESD-sensitive devices).
Match the notch on the EPROM with the notch on the board socket to
ensure that the EPROM is inserted correctly. Refer to Figure 8-4 to
determine the proper position.
Carefully insert the EPROM into the board. If the EPROM is forced
into position, the pins could be bent or damaged.
