5. Enter the record number in hexadecimal. Depending on the type of
record to be recovered or the outcome of the recovery operation,
additional, different prompts or messages are displayed. Follow the
prompts and answer each one carefully.
The record to be recovered is then checked, the bad sectors are added
automatically to the bad-sector table, and data is recovered from the
defective drive record and copied to a new record.
6. Press any key to return to the INSTALL OPTIONS: menu.
9.4.8 Install-Option L – RECOVER INSTALL TABLE
Use install-option
L only if messages and data must be recovered from a
damaged drive. When this operation is executed, it reinitializes the install
table and the static RAM (SRAM) on the file card. This recovery operation
destroys information stored in the SRAM.
Be careful when using this option. Recovering the install
table destroys information stored in the file-card SRAM
and updates system tables to include all currently
running drives as installed drives.
Caution!
The file-card SRAM contains a copy of the XC1000’s latest operations. If
the XC1000 goes out of service, it attempts to reboot, using the last
information contained in the file-card SRAM. If the SRAM is reinitialized
and the XC1000 goes out of service, messages can be lost.
Perform the following steps to deinstall all drives and reinstall system drive 0.
1. Select install-option
L
. The following prompt is displayed:
RECOVER INSTALL TABLE
CONTINUE (Y OR N):
2. Enter
Y
to recover the installed table. The following prompt appears:
INSTALL TABLE RECOVERED
PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE
3. Press any key to return to the INSTALL OPTIONS: menu.
If the operation is unsuccessful, control-bus messages appear on the screen.
If system drive 0 or message drive 0 has been marked bad before this
utility is executed, this recovery option will fail. To recover the install table
if this happens to system drive 0, complete the procedure in section 8.4.9
to replace system drive 0. If this happens to message drive 0, complete the
procedure in section 8.4.11 to replace the message drive.
