TROUBLESHOOTING
6-31
Edition One
XC1000 Service
1. Make sure that the environmental temperature (air conditioning) is
normal.
2. Check all covers and blank panels, making sure that they are in
place.
3. Ensure that all fans are running.
4. If the system environment is correct and the fans are all running, one
of the logic cards or drives could be overheating. Shut down the
XC1000 using menu 13.1 and turn off the power. Remove the cards
and drives, one at a time, and visually inspect each one.
5. If visual inspection does not reveal a faulty card or drive, turn off the
XC1000.
6. Remove all of the cards and drives.
7. Reinstall them one at time, turning the power on after each is
installed and checking the alarm LEDs. Turn the power off before
installing the next card or drive.
8. Replace the card or drive that causes the alarm LED to light. The
LED might not light immediately; therefore, check all cards and drives
each time a new card or drive is inserted.
9. Wait for the temperature to stabilize and the alarm to clear.
6.3.3.6
Partial Fan Failure.
Partial fan failure in either the logic bay or the disk
bay generates an NSA alarm and indicates that one or two fans but not all
three fans have failed. The alarm status can be viewed in menu 13.8.
Inspect the fans and replace any faulty fans before all three in one bay fail.
The monitor card takes no further action, unless the ambient, logic-bay, or
disk-bay temperatures rise enough to generate a red temperature alarm.
6.3.3.7
Partial Power Failure.
A p5-Vdc or +12-Vdc power loss is present
when one of the two redundant power supplies fails. This failure cannot
occur in nonredundant XC1000s. The power loss generates an NSA alarm if
one power supply fails. XC1000 automatically uses the full +5 Vdc or +12
Vdc from the remaining power supply. For p5-Vdc loss, the
NSA
and
5V
LEDs light on the monitor card. For p12-Vdc loss, the
NSA
and
12V
LEDs light.
6.3.4 Alarms Indicated by a Logic Card or Drive LED
When troubleshooting a logic card or disk-drive failure, the LEDs on the
cards and drives can help isolate the problem. To isolate and correct the
problem, perform the following steps:
1. View the status log to determine whether any logic card or drive
failures have been reported. Use the information in Chapter Seven to
interpret the status log. Multiple problems with the read from and
write to all of the message drives or all of the system drives could
indicate that something is wrong with the associated drive bus.
