STATUS LOG
7-30
Edition One
XC1000 Service
6. After adding the sector number to the bad-sector table, if the bad
sector was on a message drive, continue to step 8. If the bad sector
was on a system drive, continue to step 7.
7. If the bad sector was located on a system drive, verify the drive for
integrity using option
V
from the COPY OPTIONS: menu (section 9.5).
If the verify-drive utility fails, copy the system, phrases, and database
files from the other, good drive to the affected drive (section 9.5.4).
8. Run the long drive test (refer to section 9.6.1). Repeat this step until
the drive passes the test.
9. Exit the drive-test utility, reboot XC1000 with a
B
, then an
A
to return
the XC1000 to normal operation. No further action is necessary.
10. If the system did not permit sectors to be added to the bad-sector
table (step 5.b), the file card probably cannot read anything on the
drive, and a CE status-code entry is usually generated. Return to the
ENTER BOOT COMMAND:
prompt and press
^DC
to enter the Copy
Options utility. The screen briefly displays both the primary and
secondary file-card status.
11. Check the file-card-status messages. If the drive is still not running,
turn off the system power, verify that the drive module is in the
correct drive slot, and is seated correctly.
12. Turn on the system power and check whether the
RUN
LED on the
drive module is lit. If the
RUN
LED is not lit, turn off the system
power and remove the affected drive module.
13. Replace the I/O adapter card in the drive module (section 8.4.3).
14. Return the drive module to the XC1000 and turn on the system
power. Check the primary and secondary file-card-status messages
by repeating step 10. If the drive is still not running, replace the
disk-controller board (section 8.4.4).
15. If the drive is still not running, replace it (section 8.4.9, 8.4.10, or
8.4.11).
7.3.19 Status-Code CE
A status-code CE is critical. XC1000 logs a status-code CE if the minute
task finds a drive that is not running (that is, the minute task does not
receive a response from any sector on that drive). Menu 12 also shows
which drive is not running.
XC1000 usually will not automatically restart if a status-code CE is logged.
Messages stored on the drive that caused the status-code CE are lost if a
subscriber tries to listen to them. When a status-code CE is logged and the
affected drive is a message drive, status-code 72 entries are also logged,
indicating that messages were automatically deleted. Figure 7-29 shows
an example of status-code CE.
