MAINTENANCE
The
Maintenance
section is composed of the following chapters:
-
Chapter Five: Routine Maintenance
-
Chapter Six: Troubleshooting
-
Chapter Seven: Status Log
-
Chapter Eight: Component Replacement
-
Chapter Nine: System Utilities
The routine-maintenance information in Chapter Five includes a review of
the current alarm status menu (menu 13.8) to interpret any alarms
present, a review of the status log (menu 13, option 2) to determine any
possible malfunctions, backing up the system drives, testing standby
redundancy (if present), testing the ports, measuring the power and the
ground, and inspecting and cleaning the XC1000.
Chapter Six provides procedures to troubleshoot the XC1000. These
procedures include startup fault isolation, alarm indications, and external
diagnostic tools. Startup fault isolation includes power, power-source,
temperature-sensor, and SMT problems. Startup fault isolation provides
detailed step-by-step procedures used when booting the XC1000. The three
types of alarms and their indications are provided. External diagnostic tools
include external alarms, the RDAC, and the SCCS interface.
The status log is used by both system managers and service engineers.
Chapter Seven provides detailed information about the most important
status codes and how to interpret them.
Chapter Eight details procedures for replacing malfunctioning components.
These procedures include replacing logic cards, drives, power supplies, the
power-distribution system, fans, the main backplane, disk-drive backplanes,
covers, and the SMT.
Chapter Nine details the software-utility menus that are used to install,
maintain, and troubleshoot the XC1000. The system utilities are accessed
from and displayed on the SMT. The system utilities consist of five menus:
the install options, copy options, drive test, drive read-only, and terminal-
type selection. Chapter Nine also details the reformat menu, which contains
utilities and conversions not included in the other system utilities. The
reformat menu is accessed differently than the other utilities.
The utilities described in Chapter Nine could differ, depending on the
software release that the XC1000 is using. This version of system utilities
reflects software Release 1.5.
