INM Release 4.1 Planning Guide

specified for VT connections with endpoints on EC-1 and OC-3 facil-
ities.

Valid values for each of the components of an AID can be accessed to
assist in defining the complete AID. The valid values for each compo-
nent are those which have been provisioned on the network element,
apply to the specified connection rate and underlying line-protection
specification for the network element, and, for the destination AID,
have not already been used for other connections at the NE.

For an Express CX NE, VT connections can terminate on a DS1
(either on a DS1 or MTX circuit pack), EC-1, or OC-3 (either on an
OC-3 or MTX circuit pack) facility and STS-1 connections can termi-
nate on a DS3, EC-1, or OC-3 (either on an OC-3 or MTX circuit
pack) facility.

Valid AID formats for STS-1 connections are:

- DS3 <slot>

- EC1 <slot>

- OC3 <slot><sts>

Note that if the OC3 slot number is 1 or 2, the OC-3 facility is on an
OC-3 circuit pack. If the OC3 slot number is 3 or 4, the OC-3 facility
is on an MTX circuit pack.

Valid AID formats for VT connections are:

- DS1 <slot><port>

- EC1 <slot><sts><vt group><vt number>

- OC3 <slot><sts><vt group><vt number>

Note that if the DS1 slot number is either 1 or 2, the DS-1 facility is
on a DS-1 circuit pack and therefore the port number may be from 1 to
12. If the DS1 slot number is either 3 or 4, the DS-1 facility is on an
MTX circuit pack and therefore the port number may be from 1 to 8.
Also note that the slot number for OC3 may be from 1 to 4 depending
on whether the facility is on an OC-3 or MTX circuit pack.

A Source AID and Destination AID must always be specified for a
connection to be applied. In addition, for path ring and bridge ring
connection types, an additional AID must be specified for the Protec-
tion Mate.
