On invocation of the Centralized Alarm Printing Tool, the user is informed of
the current settings of the CAP, and provided the option to perform the
following tasks:
• Change the Status of the CAP (enabled / disabled).
• Modify the Log Queue Size: the valid range is 1 to 30 alarm logs, and the default
is 1 alarm log. (This capability is provided to accommodate postscript printers
which, normally, output each print request on a separate sheet of paper; the
queueing allows the user to accumulate a reasonable number of alarm logs prior
to sending the print request to the printer.)
• Change the Printer Destination: a valid printer, already configured for the INM
workstation, can be selected. If the printer destination is non-existent or invalid,
the user will see the logs appear in the Log Queue, but no printing will occur.
• View the Log Queue: on selection of this option, the INM user is provided with a
window displaying, in real time, the contents of the log queue; the user sees the
logs accumulate until the maximum number is reached, at which time the queue
will empty.
Alarm Logs
The alarm logs include the following information:
• the alarm tag (RAISED or cleared)
• the time at which it occurred
• the alarm severity
• the alarm Id, Class and Unit
• the alarmed NE Id and Name
Figure 20 provides an example of the log format for raised and cleared alarms.
