INM Broadband Release 4.1

Issue 1.2
INM Broadband also provides the capability to retrieve historical alarms from
the Controllers. Using the GNB, users can request alarm history for a single
network element. The historical alarm details provide the information required
to determine when the error condition took place and what piece of equipment,
or facility had caused the problem. Trend analysis is one of many alarm
applications which can use alarm history to establish the performance pattern,
or scheduled maintenance of a particular equipment or facility.
High-Speed Traffic Display for OC-12/48 BLSRs
The INM provides traffic status for OC-12/48 BLSRs. A graphical model of
the OC-12/48 BLSR high speed traffic status is done by overlaying graphical
state information on the links (fiber spans) between ring ADMs. A fiber span
refers to the optical connection between adjacent ADMs in the ring.
The graphical model used to represent a fiber span between adjacent ADMs in
the ring is represented as a “pipe” through which traffic flows. The pipe can
either be full, empty, and/or solid or broken. A full pipe indicates that it is
carrying traffic, whereas the empty pipe indicates that it is not carrying traffic.
The solid pipe indicates that it is capable of carrying traffic and the broken pipe
indicates that it is incapable of carrying traffic.
Figure 40 on page 104 illustrates an example of an alarm condition resulting
in a high speed protection switch on an OC-48 ring system. In this example an
automatic protection switch is activated due to a cable cut between NE1 and
NE2. In this single fault scenario, the fiber span between NE1 and NE2 is
shown in a troubled-protected state and the other fiber spans are shown in a
protecting state. Indicating that traffic has been successfully rerouted and the
protection switch was successfully completed.
