INM Broadband Release 4.1
PG OC 98-13
Issue 1.2
Connection Management
Integrated Network Management Broadband Release 4.1 provides graphical
point-and-click support as well as open contract interfaces using CORBA for
provisioning and service assurance capabilities of STS-1 connections for
TransportNode OC-192 Release 4. STS-1 connection provisioning will also be
supported on OC-12/OC-48 NEs subtending from the OC-192 4F-BLSR.
Note: Open Contract Interfaces support is not available for subtending
NEs.
The two areas of connection management functionality are the followings:
•
Connection Provisioning: Provides the user with the ability to provision
bidirectional STS-1 connections on OC-192 4F-BLSR systems. An STS-1
bidirectional connection on a BLSR is defined by:
- the two service access points at which traffic terminates,
- the STS-1 channel on which the connection is carried, and
the direction of the connection around the ring.
•
Service Assurance: Involves the management of the STS-1 connections
provisioned in the network. It enables the user to obtain a summary of
previously provisioned bidirectional connections:
- throughout a 4F-BLSR system
- on a SONET line between two adjacent ring nodes
- terminating at or passing though a specific node
The connection provisioning and service assurance capabilities are listed
below for the ring configuration:
- adding/deleting/editing STS-1 level subnetwork connections.
- point & click provisioning support for bidirectional STS-1 timeslot
assignment (TSA).
- capability to view the tributary usage on a specified NE.
- capability to view STS-1 channel usage between any two ring NEs.
- provisioning OC-12/OC-48 NEs subtending from an OC-192 4F-BLSR.
Figure 29 on page 85 shows an example of a configuration and connection.
A single-shelf OC-12 TBM mux subtending off an OC-12 tributary of an
OC-192 4F-BLSR will be shown as an OC-12 linear point-to-point system
with one OC-12 NE and one OC-192 NE. A dual-shelf OC-12 TBM mux
subtending off an OC-12 tributary of an OC-192 4F-BLSR will be shown as
an OC-12 linear ADM chain with two OC-12 NEs and an OC-192 NE at one
end (Figure 29 on page 85).
An end-to-end connection with one end terminating on an OC-12 shelf
subtending off an OC-192 NE and the other end terminating on a different
OC-192 NE will be provisioned as two separate connections - one between
NEs on the OC-192 configuration and the other from the OC-12 shelf to the
OC-192 NE.
