INM Broadband Release 4.1
PG OC 98-13
Issue 1.2
Protection Status and Control
In addition to the Fault Management Capabilities, the FMBB also provides the
support of Protection Status and Control via Contract Interfaces available to
Client Applications.
This feature applies to all of the new Linear systems where traffic displays are
supported as well as to the Ring systems (Please refer to Table 2 on page 43
for supported configurations).
This new feature provides the Protection Control functionality to be accessed
via contract interfaces. These contract interfaces are open and CORBA based
and include operations to perform high speed protection control commands.
The Fault Management building block provides one contract interface to
support Protection Status and Control functionality. The following operations
are supported:
•
Issuing Protection switch commands: For OC3/OC12 TBM and OC-48
linear systems (1+1, 1:1, 1:N) and for OC12 TBM and OC-48 2-fiber
BLSR Ring systems, provides the user with the ability to operate/release
manual switch, operate/release forced switch, operate/release lockout of
working, operate/release lockout of protection. For OC192 4-fiber BLSR
Ring Systems, the previously mentioned operations are also supported for
ring switches as well as span switches except for the operate/release lock-
out of protection which is only available for span switches.
•
Protection Group and Protection Unit lists retrieval: provides the user
with the ability to retrieve a list containing Protection Groups and Protec-
tion Unit Object grouped by configuration types. Several types of infor-
mation can be retrieved such as:
- the number of configurations in the list
- configuration type
- number of protection units in the protection unit lists
- protection unit identifier
- and other available details.
Using these operations, third party client software can effectively issue
protection switching commands by interfacing through the operations
described before.
The protection control functionality offered at the Contract Interface of the
INM GUI level has no precedence over protection control at the OPC or NE
level. Therefore in case of multiple concurrent protection switch requests, each
one will be processed on a “first come, first served” basis.
