Note on Open-Ended Rings
The objective of the OC-192 open-ended 4F-BLSR is to carry traffic on an
OC-192 4F-BLSR with one span in an open or non-closed scenario. The 4FR
ADMs in the open-ended configuration will function properly and provide a
fully survivable network. The reason for not completing the OC-192 4F-BLSR
is dependent on the customer’s requirements (i.e. fibers not present, starting
the creation of a large OC-192 4F-BLSR, etc...).
This section will give the user two recommended methods to represent such a
configuration on the INM GUI.
INM 4.1 initially displays an OC-192 Release 4.0 Open Ring configuration as
a closed 4FR with ‘Auto Switch Pending’ icons and trouble protected status on
one of the links joining the two end nodes. The other link joining the two end
nodes is shown as no traffic (Figure 30 on page 88).
Between the two end nodes as shown in Figure 30 on page 88, one link is
shown as Trouble-Not Protected (in red and broken) with auto switch icons on
both ends; and the other link is shown as no traffic (in gray solid). Nodes that
are adjacent to the end nodes have one traffic link as Trouble-Protected (in
yellow and broken) and the other link as Protecting (in yellow and solid). The
blue solid link represents normal link carrying traffic.

Figure 31 on page 89 shows the status in a dialog form for the Trouble
Protected link between the two end nodes.
