Integrated Network Management
Broadband Historical Overview
INM users can immediately determine the exact NE and alarm severity for any
existing alarm condition in the network, through the real-time surveillance
features available in the GNB. The GNB network/subnetwork displays and the
first alert alarm banner along with various combinations of color icon changes
and audible beeps provide immediate notification to the user of a new trouble
condition in the network. If nested groups are present in the
network/subnetwork windows, alarm information will be propagated so that
group icons will show alarm totals for all NEs nested underneath them.
Federated Networks
Several INM workstations may be connected together in order to support up to
10,000 NEs and 750 protected Spans of Control. The connections between
INM workstations is termed as federated connections and the connections
between INM workstations and Controllers are termed as either direct or
indirect connections. It is important to note that a direct and federated
connections are the only physical connections; an indirect connection, on the
other hand, is only a logical concept suggesting the management link between
an INM and the indirectly connected Controller. An implementation of the
INM Broadband in a federated network is shown in Figure 38 on page 101 .
