Description
Configures service for VPLS.

Usage Guidelines
This command configures a local Ethernet VPLS interface for the specified
vpls_name
. The VPLS
interface may be a VLAN or a physical port. Specifying the
vlan_name
logically binds the VLAN to the
specified vpls. Only one VLAN may be configured per VPLS. Specifying a port-list logically binds one
or more physical ports to the specified vpls. Only ports configured for
edge-service-mode
port can be
directly added to a vpls (see Configure MPLS Edge Service Mode on page 3 for additional information).
Edge-service-mode
vlan ports must be added to a VLAN and the VLAN assigned to a vpls, since the
VLAN ID (and not the port) is the service identifier. If multiple ports are added or there are multiple
ports configured for vlan_name, VPLS traffic local to the switch is forwarded within the switch.
Simultaneous support for both vlan and ports for a single vpls is not supported.
When a vlan interface has been configured for a VPLS, the VLAN is added to the VPLS as specified by
the v
pls_name
. The VLAN ID is locally significant to each VPLS. Thus, each VLAN VPLS interface
within the H-VPLS network, may have a different VLAN ID. This greatly simplifies VLAN ID
coordination between metro network access points. Traffic may be switched locally between VLAN
ports if more than one port is configured for the VLAN.
When a port interface has been configured for a VPLS, the port-list is automatically added to a unique
VMAN ID. The VMAN ID assigned, is the highest unallocated VLAN ID. The VMAN allocated for the
VLAN ID has the same name as the configured VPLS instance (i.e.,
vpls_name
). Any additional local
switch ports added to the VPLS are implicitly added to the VMAN. The VMAN ID uniquely maps to a
vpls_name
and thus identifies the ports that have been added to the Port VPLS interface. Because the
VMAN ID must uniquely identify the port, the port cannot be added to any other local VLAN.
