Chapter 12 Profile Management
Syslog Profile
Creating a Syslog Profile
To create a Syslog profile, follow these steps:
Step 1
Launch the Network Element Management Profile window by performing one of the following:
•
Right–click a Site object within the Network or Physical containment views, then choose
CSM/7600 Manager > Logical > Software > Syslog Profile.
•
Right–click a Network Element object within the Network or Physical containment views, then
choose Logical > Software > Syslog Profile.
•
Right–click a Software object within the Physical containment view, then choose Syslog Profile.
The Syslog Management Profile window appears (see
Figure 12-3
).
Step 2
Enter the name for the new profile at the prompt, then click Ok.
The newly created profile is displayed in the profile list on the left-hand side.
Step 3
Select the profile from the profile list.
Step 4
Specify the values for the profile attributes in the Syslog Configuration (IOS) and Syslog Configuration
(Catalyst OS). The fields within each of these areas are as follows:
•
Max. Table Entries—The maximum number of messages in the syslog table. When this limit has
been reached, the oldest messages are deleted to make room for newer messages.
•
Max. Syslog Severity—The maximum severity that will be recorded. Messages with a higher
numeric value of severity will not be recorded. This attribute has one of the following values (listed
in ascending order of severity):
–
emergency (1)
–
alert (2)
–
critical (3)
–
error (4)
–
warning (5)
–
notice (6)
–
info (7)
–
debug (8)
Note
The greatest severity state has the smallest numeric value of severity. For example, the
emergency state has a value of (1) and is more severe than the info state, which has a value of
(7). If you set Max. Syslog Severity to 7, then all states except debug will be recorded. This is
because the debug state has a value of (8), which is greater than the value of the Max. Syslog
Severity attribute.
•
Enable Notifications—SNMP syslog notifications are sent whenever a new syslog message is
generated and recorded.
–
true—Notifications enabled.
–
false—Notifications disabled.
