Merge Function
The Merge Function is used to take a standard letter and have it merged with
particular data in order to personalize each letter. An example would be a mass
mailing inviting 100 customers to an open house, with each letter addressed
individually.
To execute the merge printing, you need to create a master file and a merge file.
The master file contains the body text and the labelnames to which
corresponding data is added. The merge file contains the labelnames and the
data that is merged into the master file.
Creating a Master File
A master file is a text file that contains the body text and the stop codes. The
stop codes are usually used to stop printing and show you the defined prompt.
For merge printing, however, the stop codes must have a unique labelname that
requires data horn the merge file.
Follow these steps to create a master file:

Open a new text file in the WP mode.
Select *NEWFILE on the WP MAIN screen and press the
(Return)
key.

Set your desired text format.

Type text until you come to the position where you want to add merge
data.

Press the COD E + STOP keys.
The entry area for the stop code prompt appears on the lower line o f the
display.

Type a unique labelname of up to 16 characters.
Note that the labelname cannot have more than 16 characters.

Press the
(Return)
key.
The typed labelname appeal's as a prompt in the text.

Repeat the steps 3 through 6 to specify all the positions for merge print.
