Appendix A: Glossary
peer-to-peer network refers to when your network is composed of only your
Matrox Iris GT and your computer, and these are directly connected to each other
without using another device (for example, a router).
•
Private IP address
.
A private IP address is an IP address that is reserved for use on private networks.
These IP addresses cannot be used on the internet. The range of private IP
addresses includes the following:
•
Public IP address
.
A public IP address is an IP address that can be used anywhere, including on the
internet. The ranges available include everything from 1.1.1.1 to
223.255.255.255, with the exception of 127.x.y.z and those ranges defined as
private IP addresses, above.
• SOAP.
Simple object access protocol. An internet protocol that is used to encode
information from web service requests and respond to messages before sending
them over a network.
•
Static IP address
.
A static IP address is an IP address that does not change. Unlike a dynamic
allocation, a static allocation does not expire. Your Matrox Iris GT and your
computer can both be assigned static IP addresses manually or through a fixed IP
address returned by a DHCP server request.
