66 Chapter 7: Creating a Microsoft Windows CE application for Matrox Iris GT
Using Microsoft Visual Studio
Microsoft Visual Studio provides an Integrated Development Environment (IDE)
that is designed for creating applications for devices running Microsoft
Windows CE (such as Matrox Iris GT).
When working with Matrox Iris GT running Microsoft Windows CE, all
application debugging is done remotely, from the development computer. Once
the debugged application is transferred to your Matrox Iris GT, the execution of
the application can be triggered remotely from the development computer, or
directly from your Matrox Iris GT.
If you are not familiar with Microsoft’s development software, you should refer to
the Microsoft Visual Studio on-line documentation and help, for guidelines on
creating applications. You can also access this documentation via the internet, at
the MSDN website.
Steps to develop an application for Matrox
Iris GT
To develop an application for your Matrox Iris GT, perform the following:
1. Configure your Microsoft Visual Studio project. A MIL application for Microsoft
Windows CE requires specific MIL include and library files, designed for
Microsoft Windows CE. These files have the same name as the versions used for
Microsoft Windows XP.
The MIL include and library files are installed on your development computer’s
hard drive after performing the steps in
Chapter 6: Installing application
development software . To configure your MIL for Microsoft Windows CE
application, refer to the Configuring your Microsoft Visual Studio project’s
environment subsection of the Creating your MIL application section.
2. Create a MIL for Microsoft Windows CE application. Additional information on
this step is available in the Particularities of MIL for Microsoft Windows CE and
Matrox Iris GT SDK subsection of the Creating your MIL application section, later
in this chapter.
