same group. If ports are in different groups, then Layer 3 switching is performed by default. Note that when data
passes to or from an OC-12 or an OC-48 port, Layer 3 switching is automatically performed regardless of port
grouping.
Thus, port grouping is only meaningful for Gigabit Ethernet ports.
The following table displays the default Port Mapping. There are eight switching ports, the maximum number of
port groups. The port numbers go from 1 to 8, and apply only to the switching ports (
see Section 3.4.1 for port
numbering diagram). The console port and the management port cannot be grouped. For a tutorial on bridging
