Davco Transmission Fluid Level Gauge
Your coach is equipped with a Davco FT2200 Transmission Fluid Level Gauge, an “electronic dipstick”
which allows transmission fluid levels to be checked quickly and easily. The gauge is located on the rear
run box, and allows fuel service employees and mechanics to check levels without using the manual dip-
stick. The gauge is calibrated to Allison level criteria, and, in most cases, it proves to be more accurate
than manual dipstick readings.
The FT2200 is wired so that it will indicate fluid level when the following conditions are met:
1. Engine is running at low idle,
2. Transmission is in neutral for at least 90 seconds,
3. Fluid temperature is between 125°F and 220°F.
When all of these conditions are met, oil level will be displayed on the bar graph. In addition to oil level
being displayed, the bar graph also displays self diagnostic codes. The following paragraphs contain
information regarding bar graph codes. Refer to Figure 4-3.
INITIAL IDENTIFICATION CODES:
Will illuminate LED’s on the bar graph when the gauge first
receives power or if power is disconnected and restored (switching the batteries off then on). There are
three codes that will illuminate LED’s on the gauge bar graph for 4 seconds each and will show:
1. Software version
2. Type and make of transmission the gauge is programmed for
3. Transmission fluid the gauge is compensated for (most accurate reading). Note that the gauge
will be fairly accurate with different fluids.
STAND-BY:
When in standby mode, top amber, top green, center green, bottom green, and bottom am-
ber LED’s will scroll top to bottom and back repeatedly if one of the following conditions exist:
1. The engine is not running, or
2. The transmission is not manually shifted into neutral, or
3. The engine is running at fast idle.
TIME DELAY:
During the time delay period, the top and bottom green LED’s will be illuminated, then
alternate with the center green LED. This will continue for 90 seconds. The time delay allows the trans
-
mission oil to settle to the correct level. If the transmission oil is within the temperature range of 125°F
to 220°F then the bar graph will show the transmission oil level.
TEMPERATURE OUT OF RANGE:
Will flash the top green LED and the bottom green LED when
the temperature is below 125°F or above 220°F.
Reading the Gauge
BAR GRAPH:
(See Figure 4-
3
.) Displays the current temperature compensated transmission fluid level
when the engine is running at low idle, the transmission temperature is between 125°F and 220°F, the
transmission is manually shifted into neutral, and the 90 second time delay has elapsed. The bar graph is
calibrated to correspond to the “hot” marks on a dipstick. Unlike manual dipsticks, accurate readings can
be made even when fluid temperature is in between the temperatures designated for hot and cold dipstick
markings. Just as with manual dipstick reading, the gauge is accurate only when the vehicle is parked in
a level location.
