Chapter 2: System Description
Carrier Gas CO
2
Scrubber Option (On-Line)
The Sievers InnovOx On-Line TOC Analyzer uses CO
2
-free gas to sparge samples and carry CO
2
from the Sparger
and Reactor to the NDIR detector. The optional Carrier Gas CO
2
Scrubber can be used to purify compressed, dry,
and oil-free instrument air for use as sparge and carrier gas. The Carrier Gas CO
2
Scrubber consists of:
• A coalescing filter for removing any residual water and oil from instrument air supply
• A Carrier Gas CO
2
Scrubber housing mounted on a bracket and attached to the exterior right-side of
the Analyzer (Instrument air pressurized to 50 to 100 psi must be supplied to the housing.)
• A replaceable cartridge that contains the chemicals required to filter volatile organic compounds
and CO
2
from the air
The Carrier Gas CO
2
Scrubber allows the Analyzer to be operated in locations where the use of compressed gas
cylinders is undesirable. This option to provide CO
2
-free carrier gas requires a higher cost of operation and
maintenance than the air purifier option, but offers a lower initial purchase price. The consumable scrubber
cartridge must be replaced per the maintenance schedule presented in Table 15, “2-Year Maintenance
Worksheet — Sievers InnovOx Online TOC Analyzer,” on page 196.
Fail Safe Accessory
If the Fail Safe accessory is selected, sensors are installed in the Analyzer to detect when the flow rate of each
sample stream stops. The Analyzer will not attempt to analyze a stream when its flow has stopped, but will
resume analysis of it when the flow starts again. Sensors also are installed that detect when any of the reagents,
dilution water, or check standard needs to be replenished.
IP56
The optional IP56 configuration protects the Analyzer from water jets and the ingress of dust that would
interfere with operation of the Analyzer.
NEMA 4X Cabinet
The optional NEMA 4x cabinet protects the Analyzer from water jets and the ingress of dust and corrosive gases
that would interfere with operation of the Analyzer.
Hazardous Location Enclosures
Optional enclosures are available if the instrument is to be installed in a hazardous location. A Class 1 Division 2
certified enclosure and an ATEX certified enclosure are available depending on the location and needs of the
