Forum Gateway 560 Modules

Field of application

The Forum 550 Card main processor module is the central control module of 
a Forum Gateway 560. It can be installed in slot 0 only (at the left end in a 
Forum Gateway 560; see 

Slots

 starting on page 94).

In addition to the control function, the Forum 550 Card main processor central 
control module provides a number of interfaces. These are: 

●

a slot for the CompactFlash card,

●

a PCM interface for connecting two Forum Gateways 560,

●

an external Ethernet interface. 

Both V.24 interfaces on the control module have no function.

Technical information

●

The Forum 550 Card main processor central control module is powered by 
the group 1 power supply unit.

●

The central control module is equipped with a slot (MSUB-MFL, 
PCMCIA-interface) for a CompactFlash card. The firmware necessary for 
operating the Forum Gateway 560 is saved on the CompactFlash card.

●

Each Forum Gateway 560 requires a central control module and a 
CompactFlash card installed on it. 

●

Two Forum Gateways 560 can be connected with one another via the PCM 
port (implemented as RJ45 socket). The necessary system signals 
between the central control modules are produced via the PCM interface. 
The PCM interface provides the system clocks and access to the 16 Mbit/s 
PCM highway and a 2 Mbit/s LAN (see also the chapter

A Forum Gateway 560 is connected to the LAN via the Ethernet port (10/
100 MBit/s).
