Forum Gateway 560
The Forum 5004/5008/5012 communications system primarily
communicates with internal and external subscribers via VoIP. Even though
the network-based and packet-transmitted VoIP is a modern and high-
performance technology, in many cases there is also the requirement to
employ conventional, line-connected TDM telephony.
Although you can use a series of TDM interfaces on the Forum 5004/5008/
5012 communications system, the number of possible TDM connections and
TDM terminals is limited. This is why the Forum 5004/5008/5012
communications system as of release 9 also offers the option of connecting
with one or multiple gateways. Forum 5004 / 5008 / 5012 or Forum 550/
560 type communications systems are used as Forum Gateways 560 and
which function in a special operation mode as a gateway.
Forum Gateway 560 hardware facilitates installing up to 12 interface cards
which in turn respectively make available numerous ports for TDM terminals
or TDM lines. Up to 100 TDM terminals, for example, can be operated on the
Forum 5004/5008/5012 communications system using multiple
Forum Gateways 560.
This chapter provides an overview and a quick start for using and configuring
Forum Gateways 560 on the Forum 5004/5008/5012 communications
system. For a more detailed description, please read the respective in-depth
chapters.
