Install a Fan Module

Prepare the server for service. Choose one of the following methods:

Prepare the server for hot service.

FMs are hot-service components.
Access CMODs behind the FMs using a hot-service procedure. See

Access CMODs behind the FMs using a warm-service procedure. See

“Remove a

CMOD” on page 162

Prepare the server for cold service.

Access CMODs behind the FMs using a cold-service procedure. See

CMOD” on page 162

“Preparing the Server for Component Replacement” on page 101

Align the fan module with the slot.

Access this component directly from the front of the server. Ensure the handle is positioned at

the bottom of the slot with the green release button to the left and that the air vane for the slot

swings freely.

Caution -

Component damage. Do not apply excessive force when sliding the fan module into

the server. Ensure that the connector on the CMOD and the connector on the fan module are

aligned correctly.

To install the fan module, slide it into the slot until it stops and gently push it

inward until the fan module locks into place.
