Servicing DIMMs

This section describes how to service memory modules (DIMMs). DIMMs are field-replaceable

units (FRUs) that require you to power off the server. For more information about FRUs, see

“Illustrated Parts Breakdown” on page 24

 and 

“Customer-Replaceable Units” on page 26

.

The Oracle Server X7-8 supports 64-GB quad-rank (QR) Load-Reduced DIMMs (LRDIMMs)

and 32-GB dual-rank (DR) and 16-GB DR Registered DIMMs (RDIMMs).

Caution - 

These procedures require that you handle components that are sensitive to

electrostatic discharge. This sensitivity can cause the components to fail. To avoid damage,

ensure that you follow antistatic practices as described in 

“Performing Electrostatic Discharge

and Static Prevention Measures” on page 98

.

Caution - 

DIMMs should be removed and replaced only by authorized Oracle Service

personnel.

Caution - 

Ensure that all power is removed from the server before removing or installing

DIMMs, or damage to the DIMMs might occur. You must disconnect all power cables from the

system before performing these procedures.
