9.3.1.2 Description
„ CPU
The CPU receives ECG, PCG/pulse wave, cuff pressure and cuff pulse wave data. It also
handles filtering and processes LCD data, thermal recording, filing, communications, key
operations, voice operations and other operations.
„ RAM
SDRAM stores programs, the waveform work area and LCD/thermal graphic data.
„ ROM
FLASH ROM stores the boot program, application programs and font data. It is also used to
store miscellaneous function data and waveform data.
„ Backup Block
A lithium battery at all times backs up the SRAM that stores daily report data, log data and other
data and the real-time clock IC.
„ Peripheral Function Block
FPGA is used to control NIBP, keys, sound and voice functions.
(1) NIBP
NIBP controls the pump, quick exhaust valves and flow control valves and measures cuff
pulse waves and cuff pressure. The flow control valves uses DAC to vary flow rates

This function uses FPGA to detect use of fixed keyboard keys.
(3) Sound/Voice
This function uses FPGA for sound control. The sound function can output chords. The use
of a record and playback LSI makes voice playback possible. A volume control IC provides
control of speaker output.
(4) ADC
The ADC converts NIBP data, thermal print head temperature, remaining lithium battery
capacity and other analog data to digital data for transfer to FPGA.
„ LCD Control Block
This block is equipped with an LCD controller that controls the LCD.
„ LAN Block
The LAN block uses a LAN port that complies with the IEEE802.3 10BASE-T Ethernet standard
to enable high-speed communications between the VS-1500 and a PC allowing exchanges of
ECG data and patient data. Three on-board LEDs indicate LAN status (D14: link test status,
D15: data reception, D16: data transmission) to enable operation checks. The MAC address is
programmed in Flash ROM and is loaded into the controller at power up.
