Dry the tube thoroughly with a clean and lint-free cloth after wet cleaning.
Never use tracheostomy tubes with impaired functionality or with damages such as sharp
edges or cracks, because this may lead to injuries of the mucus membranes in the trachea.
If damages are found, the tube must not be used under any circumstances.
2. Disinfection Instructions
Disinfection should always be done if ordered by a doctor/physician due to specific health
concerns caused by disease, infection, or your specific situation.
Disinfecting is generally indicated to prevent cross-infection and in inpatient situations (e.g.
hospitals, nursing homes, and/or other health care facilities) to limit infections.
CAUTION!
Always clean according to the cleaning procedure described above before proceeding to
disinfection (if applicable).
Disinfectants that release chlorine or that contain strong alkalis or phenol derivatives must
under no circumstances be used. This could badly damage or even destroy the tracheos-
tomy tube.
Disinfection steps
For disinfection, place the silver cannula in boiling water (100 degrees Celsius or 212 de-
grees Fahrenheit) for 5 to 10 minutes. Make sure that this completely covers the silver
cannula.
Dry the tube thoroughly with a clean and lint-free cloth after wet cleaning.
CAUTION!
Allow the tube to cool down before inserting it again to avoid scalds and burns.
X. STORAGE/CARE
Currently not used and cleaned tubes should be stored in a clean plastic container, dry
environment away from dust, sunlight and heat.
After the inner cannula has been cleaned, disinfected if necessary and then dried, the out-
er surface of the inner cannula should be lubricated by applying stoma oil, e.g. using an
OPTIFLUID
®
stoma oil wipe.
Only use stoma oil (OPTIFLUID
®
Stoma Oil, 25 ml bottle REF 31525 / Stoma oil wipe REF
31550) or lubricant gel (FAHL
®
OPTIFLUID
®
Lubricant Gel 20 g tube REF 36100/ 3 g sachet
REF 36105) as lubricant.
XI. SERVICE LIFE
SILVERVENT
®
tracheostomy tubes made of sterling silver are designed for long-term use.
Send us your tracheostomy tubes for checking and reconditioning on a regular basis, at
least every 6 months. The service life depends on the intensity of use as well as on main
-
tenance and regular checking and reconditioning. However, the tracheostomy tubes should
be replaced at the latest 3 years after first use.
The service life of a tube is influenced by many factors. The composition of the secretions,
the quality of cleaning and other aspects, for example, are very important.
The maximum service life is not extended by using the tracheostomy tube intermittently (e.g.
by alternating with other tubes at normal cleaning intervals).
Damaged tubes must be replaced immediately.
XII. LEGAL NOTICES
The manufacturer Andreas Fahl Medizintechnik-Vertrieb GmbH will not accept any liability
for functional deficiencies, injuries, infections, and/or other complications or adverse events
caused by unauthorised product alterations or improper use, care, and/or handling.
In particular, Andreas Fahl Medizintechnik-Vertrieb GmbH will not accept any liability for
damages caused by modifications to the tracheostomy tube, especially due to shortening of
the same or perforations, if these modifications or repairs were not carried out by the manu
-
facturer himself. This applies both to damages to the tubes themselves caused thereby and
to any consequential damages caused thereby.
