This bulletin replaces Service Bulletin GEN-004A

The following pages contain General Guidelines for Assembly Level Troubleshooting. This procedure is
designed to be followed on any service call. It is not specific to any one instrument.

Introduction

Field experience has proven that a structured approach to problem solving is the key to effective service.
This bulletin is intended to provide this structured approach for solving problems on any instrument. The
troubleshooting aids in this section will help you to diagnose operating difficulties and system
malfunctions.

General Guidelines for Assembly Level Troubleshooting

On-site assembly level troubleshooting poses unique and complex challenges to the Field Support
Engineer. In addition to identifying and replacing the faulty assembly, the Field Support Engineer must
often travel great distances to the customer location, resolve operator errors, and identify power and
environmental causes of problems while satisfying the customer's perception of quality service.

A structured approach to resolving field problems can greatly increase customer satisfaction and the Field
Support Engineer's effectiveness. There are seven major tasks in resolving field equipment problems:

Prior to Going On-Site

that Address the Problem
