OF12 Output Device Un-docked RAP
Use this RAP to diagnose faults in a HCSS booklet maker that give the message “Ensure out-
put device is docked” when the output device is definitely docked correctly to the machine. The
probable cause of this type of fault is a damaged motor, solenoid, clutch, harness or PWB that
is shorting the +24V supply to ground.
Procedure
WARNING
Switch off the electricity to the machine, GP 14. Disconnect the power cord from the
customer supply while performing tasks that do not need electricity. Electricity can
cause death or injury. Moving parts can cause injury.
1.
Switch off the machine GP 14.
2.
Disconnect the following connectors:
•
PJ423 HCSS PWB
•
PJ428 HCSS PWB
•
PJ432 HCSS PWB
•
PJ433 HCSS PWB, if the output device is a HCSS booklet maker.
•
PJ410 Carriage PWB
3.
Switch on the machine GP 14 and wait until it is fully initialized. If the message “Ensure
output device is docked” is displayed, go to Isolating Damaged Components Connected
to the HCSS PWB. If the message does not appear, go to step 4.
NOTE: Ignore any other messages that may be displayed due to the disconnection of the
carriage PWB and the booklet maker PWB.
4.
Switch off the machine GP 14. Reconnect PJ423, PJ428 and PJ432 on the HCSS PWB
and PJ410 on the Carriage PWB.
Switch on the machine GP 14 and wait until it is fully initialized. If the message “Ensure
output device is docked” is displayed, go to Isolating Damaged Components Connected
to the Carriage PWB. If the message does not appear, go to Isolating Damaged Compo-
nents Connected to the Booklet Maker PWB.
NOTE: Ignore any other messages that may be displayed due to the disconnection of the
booklet maker PWB.
Isolating Damaged Components Connected to the HCSS PWB
1.
Switch off the machine GP 14.
2.
Disconnect the following connectors:
•
PJ415 HCSS PWB, if the output device is a HCSS
•
PJ416 HCSS PWB
•
PJ418 HCSS PWB
•
PJ419 HCSS PWB
•
PJ421 HCSS PWB
•
PJ424 HCSS PWB
•
PJ425 HCSS PWB
•
PJ431 HCSS PWB, if the output device is a HCSS.
3.
Switch on the machine GP 14 and wait until it is fully initialized:
•
If the message “Ensure output device is docked” is not displayed, continue at step 4.
•
If the message “Ensure output device is docked” is displayed, Install a new HCSS
PWB, PL 11.92 Item 5, ensure the PJs, listed in step 2 are disconnected, continue at
step 4.
4.
Refer to Table 1. Perform the following actions for each component of the appropriate
configuration:
a.
Use a service meter to measure the resistance of the component and harness at the
specified PJ and pins. If the resistance is out of specification, check the harness and
and connectors for damage, short circuits or poor connections. If necessary repair
the wiring and connectors. If the resistance is out of specification and the wiring is
good, Install a new component.
NOTE: Where two or more components share the same connector to the PWB, per-
form the resistance check on all of the components before connecting the PJ to the
PWB.
b.
Connect the component to the HCSS PWB, Making sure the connection is good.
Enter the dC330 code for the component, then press start to energize the compo-
nent. Verify that the component is energized. Press stop.
c.
If the message “Ensure output device is docked” returns when the component is
energized, or if the component does not energize, install a new component.
