Touchscreen Console setup
3.2 Module overview
Each of the Touchscreen Console modules listed below provide the
ability to monitor and control various functions. Some modules either
require or can be optionally used with ancillary components, such as
sensors or pumps. Many modules are also optionally dependent on
ancillary components or other modules. This means that, if desired,
you can set up interlocks within modules that change their function
based on certain conditions, such as stopping the pump when the
BPC air pressure reaches a specified value. See section 3.4.1 for more
information on setting interlocks.
•
Agitation
—The Agitation module is used to monitor and control
the imPULSE S.U.M. mixing speed, which is displayed in cycles
per second (Hz); and control motor drive homing. This module is
optionally dependent on the temperature control unit (TCU), if a
TCU is being used. This means that the Touchscreen Console can
pause or stop the TCU if the agitation speed reaches above or
below specified setpoints.
• Pumps
—The Pumps module can only be used if one or more
pumps have been set up. This module can be used to fill the BPC
with liquid, deliver acid, base, or buffer solutions, and harvest liquid.
The use of pinch valves is optional, but without them, you must
manually open and close BPC lines using pinch clamps.
•
Auxiliary output
—The Auxiliary output module can be used
to duplicate another existing module, such as Temperature, if
necessary. This module uses the same connection port (on the
back of the Touchscreen Console) as pumps, which means you
can have a maximum combination of four pumps and/or auxiliary
outputs.
• Mass
—The Mass module requires load cells to read the total
weight of the imPULSE S.U.M. system. The following functions can
be used with this module:
–
Fill pinch valve:
The pinch valve will close if the mass reading is
above a specified setpoint, to prevent overflowing.
–
Harvest pinch valve:
The pinch valve will close if the mass
reading is below a specified setpoint, to prevent overharvesting.
–
Pumps:
The pumps will turn off if the mass reading is above or
below a specified setpoint, to prevent potential damage caused
by mixing in an empty BPC.
• Temperature
—The Temperature module requires one or two
temperature sensors. The Temperature module can be used to
monitor and adjust the temperature. However, a TCU is required to
make adjustments to the temperature. The Temperature module
