Step 2. Touch the static-protective package that contains the ServeRAID controller to an unpainted metal
surface on any grounded rack component; then, remove the controller from the package.
Step 3. Locate the ServeRAID controller connector (see “System-board layouts” on page 17).
Step 4. Orient the connector on the ServeRAID controller with the connector on the system-board; then,
press the controller into the system-board connector.
Step 5. Firmly press on the indicated locations to seat the ServeRAID
controller.

Step 6. Import your RAID configuration to the replacement ServeRAID adapter as
a foreign configuration. See the ServeRAID-M Software User Guide at
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/migr-5086126 for instructions.
After you install the ServeRAID controller, complete the following steps:
1. Install the cover onto the compute node (see “Installing the compute node cover” on page 644 for
instructions).
2. Install the compute node into the chassis (see “Installing a compute node in a chassis” on page 639
for instructions).
Removing an I/O expansion adapter
Use this information to remove an I/O expansion adapter.
Before you remove the I/O expansion adapter, complete the following steps:
1. Read “Safety” on page iii and “Installation guidelines” on page 637.
2. If the compute node is installed in an Flex System chassis, remove it (see “Removing a compute node
from a chassis” on page 639 for instructions).
3. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, orienting the compute node with
the bezel pointing toward you.
