However, the increased transit distance for the sound also leads to a higher attenuation of
the signal in the flowing medium. Furthermore, the reflection on the opposite pipewall
causes additional amplitude losses of the sound signal.
Note:
It is always advisable to select the reflection mode if the pipe is sufficiently sonically
conductive and the pipewall is relatively smooth. However, FLUXUS will respect your
decision. Generally, the correct positioning of the transducer in reflection mode is
easier than using the diagonal method.
5.2.4 Transducer Installation in Diagonal Mode
If you experience higher sound attenuation and if there are deposits on the inner pipewall,
the transducer should be mounted using the diagonal method. In this instance, the sound
signal only travels through the pipe once. But under non-ideal conditions in the pipe, the
amplitude of the received signal is considerably higher than if the reflection method had
been applied.
Transducer 1
In diagonal mode, the second transducer must
be mounted on the opposite side of the
pipewall.

By entereing an odd number under Sound
Path, the diagonal transducer mounting
method can be chosen.
5.2.5 Transducer Distance
After you decided which mounting method to apply, this display of the program branch

appears.

M5 The display indicates the distance each
transducer should be mounted (for instance 54
mm) from the other.

The accuracy of the suggested distance calculated by FLUXUS depends on the accuracy
of both the pipe and medium parameters entered.
