12 Wall Thickness Measurement (WTM)
12.1 Overview of the WTM Option
When equipped with the WTM Option,
FLUXUS
can operate as a wall thickness
gauge. For this, a dedicated wall thickness sensor, which plugs directly into the
sensor connection port, is supplied. FLUXUS is able to automatically recognise
that the wall thickness sensor has been connected to the instrument. The value
measured through the wall thickness function can easily be transferred into the
current parameter record for the flow measurement, and may also be protocolled if
necessary. The determination of the longitudinal sound velocity of a material is
also possible.
FLUXUS
with WTM option uses a modified transit-time method to determine the
thickness or sound velocity of a material (test piece). The sensor probe emits a
short ultrasonic pulse into the test piece. The pulse signal is reflected by the
boundary layer of the test piece and received again by the sensor probe. The time
difference between the emitted and received signal is a measure for the thickness
of the test piece
