Measuring Data Transfer to PC
8 Measuring Data Transfer to Personal
Computer
By connecting FLUXUS to an IBM-compatible PC, measuring data can be transferred
from FLUXUS to a PC. The data transfer may either take place
ONLINE
(during
measurement) or
OFFLINE
(after on-line measurements have been performed).
The 3.5 " disk, which is part of the standard supply for the instrument, contains the current
version of the utility programs
MOVEFAST.EXE, MOVEDATA.EXE
and
FLXtoTXT.EXE
for the data transfer to a PC.
•
Copy program files to a newly created
directory on your hard disk drive.
Alternatively, you can use the program
INSTALL.EXE which can be found on the 3.5
" disk. The installation program
INSTALL.EXE creates a directory on your
hard disk (C:\FLUXUS on default) and copies
all programs and associated files from the
floppy disk onto it.
•
Switch FLUXUS ON. Connect the COM-port
(RS-232) of the PC and the 9-pin D-type
connector at the rear side of FLUXUS with the
supplied serial interface cable.
The utility program
MOVEFAST.EXE
copies the internal memory content of FLUXUS to
the memory of the Personal Computer via serial interface connection (FLUXUS works in
slave mode). Then, the program creates a readable text file (an ASCII file which can
easily be imported by PC programs like Excel) and a compressed binary file of the
measured values (*.FLX). Both files are stored in the directory previously created. The
file content can be visualised with any PC standard text or measurement program (Excel,
Lotus 1-2-3, DaDisp, etc.). The program MOVEFAST.EXE is, therefore, being used for
the
OFFLINE
data transfer of data already stored in FLUXUS.
MOVEDATA.EXE
is a terminal program which allows the user to capture the data
transmitted by FLUXUS with a PC and the store the information in a file. In this mode,
FLUXUS generates the readable format and transfers the information to the PC.
MOVEDATA.EXE is a utility program which makes the PC perform like an external
printer. The data transfer is slower than it is when using MOVEFAST. But only a small
proportion of the PC’s RAM capacity is being used. With the program MOVEDATA.EXE,
the transfer of measured data can either be performed
