Virtual Calculation Channels
10 Virtual Calculation Channels
10.1 Overview
In addition to the physically existing ultrasonic measuring channels (channels A and B)
the FLUXUS ADM has two virtual calculation channels (channels Y and Z). These two
‘virtual’ channels mean that it is possible to perform simple operational calculations
based on the two ultrasonic measuring channels, whilst the unit is in operation, e.g.
channel A
minus
channel B. The results of this calculation are the measuring values of
the virtual channel and can be treated in the same way as those readings produced
from the standard channels, for example, totalisation, online output, storing, process
outputs. The ability to perform these calculations is based on having input from two
pairs of transducers via channels A and B.
10.2 Characteristics of the Calculation Channels
•
The parameterisation of the virtual channels (program branch >PARAMETER<)
differs from the parameterisation of a physical channel. Instead of entering the
parameters of the measuring point (i.e. pipe, medium), you simply have to decide on
the type of calculation that you would like to perform.
•
The calculation channels on the FLUXUS ADM are not automatically filtered. It is
therefore necessary to set up the required damping separately for each of the two
measuring channels, (program branch >OUTPUT OPTIONS<).
•
It is possible to set up two sign-marked cut-off flows for each calculation channel.
These cut-off flows are not based on the flow velocity (as physical channels do), but
they are defined in the unit of measurement of that quantity of measurement, which
was selected for the respective calculation channel (program branch OUTPUT
OPTIONS).
•
A calculation value is compared with the set cut-off flows (and is set to 0.00 if
necessary) before it is totalised.
•
Process inputs, such as temperature inputs cannot be allocated to a calculation
channel.
•
It is not necessary to go through the transducer positioning sequence in order to
configure the calculation channel, (program branch MEASURING).
•
A virtual channel only gives valid results if valid measurements can be obtained from
both physical channels.
•
The stored measuring values of a calculation channel can be displayed or filed
within the WINDOWS program FLUXDATA, (from version V1.1 onwards only). Older
program versions display neither the stored measuring value nor the stored totalised
values.
