Wall Thickness Measurement
Periodical unevenness (e.g. small grooves) on the surface of a measuring object
can lead to wrong measuring results. Normally, this problem can be overcome by
turning the probe so that the acoustic partition boundary of the probe
(see drawing below)
is vertical to the orientation of the grooves.
In some cases, wrong measuring values are obtained because of a rough surface
structure and too much use of coupling component.
With very rough surfaces, measurements might not even be possible (display
shows “No Coupling”. In such a case, the surface should be treated and
smoothed out accordingly.

Longitudinal axis of the pipe
During measurements on pipes or cylindrical
containers, the probe must be pressed as
centrally as possible against the object by
applying constant pressure.
The acoustic partition boundary of the probe
must be vertical to the longitudinal axis of the
object being tested.
12.5.6 Storage and Transfer of Thickness Value
The following display appears when a valid measurement of the wall thickness has
been obtained and one of the possible output options has been activated:
no >YES<
Transfer Data
M* Select YES to store and/or output the
obtained measured value.
•
If you measured the wall thickness, this
value will be transferred into the current
parameter record for the clamp-on flow
measurement. At the same time, the
material measured will be up-dated
within the parameter record as pipe
material currently in use.
•
If the internal printer and/or the serial
output is activated, the measured value
will be printed and/or transmitted.
12.5.7 Stop Wall Thickness Measurement
You can leave the operational mode to measure wall thickness as follows:
Disconnect the sensor probe when you are in
program branch MEASURING.
Otherwise:
•
Change to the MAIN MENU of the WTM
option by pressing
BR K
.
