From the diagram if any of the protection relays trips then the other will trip too as
soon as it receives the trip transfer.
2.3.2.4. PROTECTION FOR POWER FLOW INVERTION IN
PARALLEL LINES
This is a special case of the POTT diagram. In order to visualize the problem and
understand the solution a diagram of the faulted system is presented in Figure 2-60.

This is a pair of parallel lines: the first one protected by relays A and B and the
second one protected by relays C and D. The fault occurs in the line protected by A
and B; both relays “see” the fault but for some reason B acts before A. This is the
faulted line scenario but let see what happens at the other “healthy” line.
The selected protection scheme for the C-D pair is POTT. Since both are configured
with overreach it is very likely that the relay C could see the fault in segment A-B. C is
however blocked by relay D which has a clearer view of the fault and thus determines
that it is not in the protected segment.
